Overview: What Are Clockwork Castellans in Resident Evil 4 Remake?

Every chapter has exactly one Castellan, and you can’t go back for most of them once you progress past the chapter’s point of no return.
This location guide breaks down all locations with exact map references, gives you a full checklist to track your finds, and breaks down exactly what rewards you get for finding all collectibles. No vague wiki directions, no missing context – this is the definitive guide to get all hidden items on your first run.

Full Numbered Checklist: All Clockwork Castellan Locations (Region-by-Region)
We’ve organized this complete map breakdown by chapter order, following your natural progression through the game. Every entry includes exact location, how to reach it, and whether it’s missable.
Chapter 1: Village Abandoned Factory
- Location: Abandoned Factory, back storage room
After you defeat the first Chainsaw Man and exit the house with the key, head toward the factory gate. Before you climb the ladder up to the gate, turn left into the small back storage nook. The Castellan is sitting on a crate to your left, tucked behind a stack of lumber.
Missable: No – you can return here after unlocking the village later in the game
Pro Tip: It’s almost at eye level if you’re facing the ladder – most players run straight past it without glancing left.
Chapter 2: Village Farm
- Location: Farm, blue cow shed
After you grab the Hexagonal Emblem from the barn, head out to the south end of the farm to the small shed with the blue cow painted on the side. The Castellan is perched on top of the hay bale stack in the back corner of the shed.
Missable: No – the farm remains accessible through Chapter 5
Common Mistake: Players confuse this with the big barn and search the rafters – it’s the tiny separate shed, not the main barn.
Chapter 3: Lake Boathouse
- Location: Lakeside Boathouse, upper rafter
After you kill Del Lago and dock at the boathouse on the other side of the lake, turn around and look up at the wooden rafters directly above the entrance door. The Castellan is tucked between two beams, hard to spot unless you aim up with your pistol.
Missable: Yes – once you leave the boathouse and progress to the Village Castle gates, you can’t return here via normal means
Pro Tip: Use your knife to break it if you don’t want to waste a bullet – it only takes one slash to destroy the Castellan and collect your reward.
Chapter 4: Mural Cave (Village)
- Location: Mural Cave, back altar nook
After you place the two Apostate’s Heads to open the cave gate, don’t run straight for the elevator. Turn right into the small niche behind the large stone altar. The Castellan is sitting on the ground right against the wall.
Missable: Yes – once you take the elevator to the castle, you can’t return to the Village Mural Cave
That’s two missable Castellans in two chapters – stay sharp, this is where most players drop their first one.
Castle Region (Chapters 5-12)
Chapter 5: Castle Entrance Courtyard
- Location: Main Castle Courtyard, north fountain pedestal
After you enter the castle and clear the first crossbow Ganados, head into the main open courtyard. The Castellan is glued to the back of the central fountain’s stone pedestal, facing the north exit to the Battlements. You’ll have to walk around the fountain to spot it.
Missable: No – the courtyard stays accessible through most of the castle campaign
Chapter 6: Castle Waterhall
- Location: Waterhall, lower water channel
After you lower the water level and cross the first metal walkway, drop down into the dry lower channel. The Castellan is sitting on a small outcropping in the left wall right before you climb back up to the next platform.
Missable: Yes – once you raise the water again and exit to the Castle Battlements, you can’t return
Pro Tip: The game’s auto-save hits right after you exit the Waterhall – if you forget it here, you have to reload a previous manual save if you want to grab it.
Chapter 7: Castle Dining Hall
- Location: Grand Dining Hall, right side chandelier chain
After you clear the room of armored Ganados, look up at the chandelier that you can shoot to swing across the gap. The Castellan is hanging from the right-side anchor chain for the chandelier, about halfway up. You’ll need to aim at it from the entrance door to get a clear shot.
Missable: No – you can return here from the castle library any time before the end of the chapter
Chapter 8: Castle Treasury
- Location: Treasury, upper west ledge
After you grab the Crown from the treasure pedestal, climb the ladder up to the upper balcony. The Castellan is tucked into the corner of the railing on the west side, directly opposite the entrance ladder.
Missable: Yes – once you exit the Treasury through the hidden door, you can’t get back in
This is the third and final highly missable Castellan – 90% of first-time players miss this one, don’t be that guy.
Chapter 9: Castle Mausoleum
- Location: Mausoleum, left sarcophagus
After you enter the mausoleum to get the Lantern, check the left side of the room against the far wall. The Castellan is sitting on top of the large closed stone sarcophagus. It’s right out in the open, easy to spot if you do a quick loop of the room.
Missable: Yes – once you leave the mausoleum with the Lantern, you can’t return
Chapter 10: Castle Ramparts
- Location: Outer Ramparts, broken cannon emplacement
After you climb the first set of ladders and clear the catapult Ganados, head past the first working catapult to the broken cannon emplacement on the outer wall. The Castellan is sitting on the edge of the emplacement, right where the cannon used to be.
Missable: No – the ramparts stay accessible until you assault the clock tower
Chapter 11: Castle Clock Tower
- Location: Clock Tower interior, middle gear platform
When you’re climbing the rotating gear platforms to the top of the tower, stop on the second middle platform. The Castellan is glued to the side of the large central gear, right where the platform connects. It rotates into view every 4 seconds – wait for the window to shoot it so you don’t miss and fall.
Missable: Yes – once you exit the clock tower to the bridge, you can’t return
Pro Tip: The timing window is 3 frames when it’s fully exposed – if you’re going for a quick grab, wait until it’s 90% visible before pulling the trigger to avoid a missed shot.
Chapter 12: Island Dock (Prison Access)
- Location: Island Main Dock, shipping container stack
After you get off the boat at the island dock, turn right and climb the stack of blue shipping containers. The Castellan is sitting on top of the highest container, right against the crates.
Missable: No – the entire island remains accessible through the end of the game, so you can backtrack here any time before the final boss
Island Region (Chapters 13-16)
Chapter 13: Waste Disposal
- Location: Waste Disposal Facility, drain control room
After you drain the toxic waste and fight the first Regenerador, head into the small control room in the back of the facility. The Castellan is sitting on the control console right next to the drain lever. It’s impossible to miss if you check the console after pulling the lever.
Missable: Yes – once you exit to the facility’s exit elevator, the doors lock behind you and you can’t return
Chapter 14: Communications Facility
- Location: Communications Roof, antenna base
After you climb the ladder to the roof of the communications facility, turn left and check the base of the large satellite antenna. The Castellan is tucked between the antenna legs and the low wall, right at the corner.
Missable: No – you can backtrack here any time before the final sequence
Chapter 15: Throne Room (Island Fortress)
- Location: Saddler’s Throne Room, behind the throne
After you enter the throne room and clear the Iron Maiden and Ganados, walk behind the large throne on the raised platform. The Castellan is sitting right against the back of the throne’s base, out of sight from the front of the room.
Missable: Yes – once you exit the throne room to the platform leading to the final boss area, you can’t return
Chapter 16: Final Boss Arena (Ritual Site)
- Location: Ritual Site, lower cliff edge
When you first spawn into the ritual site for the Osmund Saddler fight, turn around and walk to the edge of the cliff behind you. The final Clockwork Castellan is sitting on the cliff edge right against the rock face, before you drop down to the arena. Grab it before you drop down to start the fight – once you pull the cutscene, you can’t go back.
Missable: Yes – this is the last one, and if you miss it you have to beat the entire game again to get another shot
Pro Tip: Save right before you drop into the arena, so if you forget to grab it you can just reload instead of replaying the whole chapter.
